21. First Flight

21. First Flight

A man found a chrysalis of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He saw and observed the butterfly for quite a few hours as it grappled to force its body through that little hole. Then it gives the impression to go no further and stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gone as far as it could. So the man decided to help out the butterfly.

He took a pair of scissors and cut off the left over bit of the chrysalis. The butterfly then appeared without any hindrance. But it had a swollen body and small shrunken wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he supposes that at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to hold the body, which would contract in time. Nothing happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling with a distended body and wrinkled wings.

It was never be able to fly. The man, in his kindness and hurriedness, did not understand was that the restricting chrysalis and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were nature‘s way of pushing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be able to flight once it attain its freedom from the chrysalis. At times struggles are exactly what we require in our lives. If we went through our lives without any obstacles, it would incapacitate us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly!
