Interjection

Interjection

An interjection is a word class (or part of speech) that explains the feeling, sentiment or emotion of the writer.

Interjections are normally followed by an exclamation mark (!) to express emotion.

Interjections are not normally used in formal writing.
They are common in speech (and therefore informal and fiction writing), where they show emotions such as anger, surprise and interest as well as convey hesitation.

Interjections express a sudden mood, emotions, and feeling

→ What? You never said to me that!
→ Wow! That’s a wonderful picture.
→ Aw, you did not want him to come.

Some interjections express only yes or no

→ Yes! He will most certainly do it.
→ No, They are not leaving.
→ Nah, They are not leaving.

Some interjections interrupt a discussion or a thought or hold attention for a moment. These are just sounds, not words because these sounds do not make any sense.

→ His pants, uh, has a stain (داغ) on the front.
→ She wants to, um, ask you a question.
